Salt was probably since the beginning of time the first mineral used consciously by man as a food supplement. The growing need and concern of man to keep food in good condition brought him to realize that the use of salt was one of the methods.

Around 2700 B.C. the oldest treaty about pharmacology called “Peng-Tzao-Kam-Um” was published in China where it refers to over 40 types of salt and describes two methods for its extraction and transformation, which are surprisingly very similar to the ones used today.
